Two nights, three days in the country side of southern Portugal, who would have thought, lies a wellness resort nestled amongst lush green nature and gorgeous European coastlines.

Longevity Wellness Worldwide seem to be at the forefront of wellness in Portugal, with two current wellness properties, Vilalara Longevity Thalassa & Medical Spa, the Longevity Cegonha Country Club and a 5-star Longevity Health and Wellness hotel due to open in Summer, 2019.

Founded by Business entrepreneur, Nazir Sacoor, Longevity Wellness Worldwide has joined forces with HPA Private Health Group for the new hotel, a high quality player certified by the international Joint Commission International (JCI). They share equal values with a goal to combat and reverse inflammation through preventative modalities.

Disease caused by inflammation is no question skyrocketing. Processed foods, stress, environmental chemicals, radiation, sleep deprivation and lack of exercise all being contributory factors.

So they ask the question, and so do I,  what matters to you? Quick fix solutions, or staying healthy, preventing disease before it happens and reversing what is already holding you back.

When Australian-based wellness travel agency, Health & Fitness Travel invited me to experience Longevity Wellness at the Longevity Cegonha Country Club in the Algarve region of Portugal, there was no question I’d extend my euro-trip to be there.

The Longevity Cegonha Country Club, about a 20-minute drive from Faro airport is tailored specifically for relaxation and affordability. Young couples, singles and working professionals aged between 35-55 and above were the main clientele as the resort has a “no children” rule.

The first thing I felt upon arrival was purity. The water, the food, the surroundings were clean. rooms are fixed with Alkaline Water pH 9.5, the brands custom Longevity “Detox” tea and lovely aromatherapy essential oil. Perfect.

Food + Nutrition

I couldn’t complain about the food, with a strong summer influence of fresh fruits, juices and smoothies, green salads, local fish, eggs, nuts, seeds and grains, and plenty of goji berries. The food is in accordance to the program in which you are on. For me it was a taste of the “Feel Detox & Slim” and the “Feel De-Stressed & Rebalanced” program.

Fitness + Wellness

There’s plenty of room to exercise with a 24/7 gym and in-house personal trainer. Riccardo worked me hard first thing in the morning with a 30-minute session tailed to what I wanted to achieve; strength and toneness, your goals may be different. Living a very yogi life for a while now, gyms have been a thing of the past, so squats, kettle bells and mountain climbers definitely left an imprint on my muscles the day after. All good, of course and you only have to push yourself as hard as you want.

I also experienced my first Osteopathy and Cranio Sacral Therapy with Katarina. What a gifted practitioner she is. Osteopathy is a gentle manual form of medicine that focuses on total body health by rebalancing the musculoskeletal framework, including the joints, muscles and spine. It seeks to identify and remove blockages allowing the body to heal itself and balance the nervous, circulatory, lymphatic and visceral systems.

Cranio Sacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on approach which releases tensions set deep in the body relieving pain and dysfunction, as well as improving health and performance. Using a soft touch, it releases restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.

The spa is where you really detox everything, and not just food. I’m talking physical, mental, emotional and spiritual detox through therapeutic massage, facials, reiki, lymphatic drainage, reflexology and more. I was fortunate to experience the Iyashi Dome which promotes detox, weight loss and cellular rejuvenation. Inspired by the traditional “Suna Ryoho” practice in Japan, Iyashi Dome transfers a gentle heat to the whole body using Japanese infrared technology, making the body produce sweat. This deep and effective detoxification helps the body subsequently lose fat, eliminate toxic waste such as heavy metals, recharge its batteries more rapidly and slim down. In fact, they say you can lose up to 600 calories in one 30-minute session. It’s also proven the domes effectiveness in treating skin aging of the face and body. A hot experience for sure, but the skin never felt so good afterwards.

Other Activities

Group activities run all throughout the day from yoga, meditation, pilates and dance to numerology workshops, crystal healing workshops and energy medicine workshops. If you prefer to be outdoors, there are daily group nature walks, bike tours and a world-class golf course just 8-minutes away for those who not only love the Vilamoura lifestyle but playing golf as well.

For me there is nothing better than being in the sun, so relaxing on the grass by the pool and spa was all I needed to get my Vitamin D fix. The Infrared sauna, steam room and Epsom salt room were great as well.

The rooms speak simplicity yet with a Portuguese influence. Mosaic tiles, your own outdoors garden with lush green grass. Walking bare foot is the perfect thing to do to ground yourself after travel.

Other must do’s

Make sure you head to the ocean to see the sunset or rise. Just a 10-minute drive to the coast lies the Vilamoura Marina, filled with boats, restaurants and shops. Just on from that is the ocean with wide open views, golden sands and gorgeous little beach huts you can sit under and watch nature at its very best.

Being a beach girl at heart, staying here really was the highlight of my euro-trip.
