Book Club I

In honour of the release of my first e-book this year, I thought it would be cool to share some awesome books that I’ve also been reading and enjoying lately.

just when we think we have all the knowledge and tools for life, there is always something new to learn from other people and I have absolutely loved reading the opinions and views on health, healing and spirituality from the below experts. they are all so personal and I hope you also value their time, openness and creativity as much as I do.

I’d love for you to share what you’re reading also, and hey, maybe we can start a book club this year to discuss our findings further :)

1. How To Do The Work by Dr. Nicole Perla

From the creator of @the.holistic.psychologist, the online phenomenon with over three million Instagram followers (I hope you are following!) comes a revolutionary approach to health and healing.

As a clinical psychologist, Dr. Nicole Perla found herself frustrated by the limitations of traditional psychotherapy. Wanting more for her patients, as well as herself, she began a journey to develop a united philosophy of mental, physical and spiritual health that gives people the tools to heal themselves.

In her book, how to do the work, she offers an in-depth guide on how to create a more vibrant, authentic and joyful life drawing on both scientific research and alternate healing modalities. She particularly touches on childhood trauma and how adverse experiences keep us stuck and create unhealthy life patterns.

Nothing short of a paradigm shift, this is a compilation of knowledge and a celebration of empowerment that will forever change the way we approach mental health and self-care.

2. Diet for Great Sex: Food for Male and Female Sexual Health, by Christine DeLozier

Instead of dieting to lose weight, why not focus on eating that makes you feel good?

acupuncturist and herbalist, Christine DeLozier emphasises how integral nutrition is key to keep yourself feeling good, both in and out of the bedroom, and offers recipes to ensure a great night. She also emphasizes why and how women can feel attractive and amazing at any size.

“We must care for the biological design of our bodies and diet affects sex,” she says. “A great deal of clinical research demonstrates that certain eating habits increase blood flow, balances hormones and help nerves to be most responsive to touch.”

DeLozier’s great sex action plan includes meal plans, sample menus and a dietary planner with all the ingredients to improve your intimate life from the inside out.

I personally love her directness and relatable love stories she includes. I also love how much she refers to Traditional Chinese Medicine many times throughout (TCM stems from Ayurveda, therefore is very similar :)

3. Higher Self Expression: How to Become an Artist of Possibility by Jeff Carreira

Meditation teacher and mystical philosopher, Jeff Carreira explores the nature of spiritual genius and reveals the profound state of inner freedom that Carreira says can be nurtured and mastered. His insights aim to help readers unlock their own creative brilliance and attain their true potential.

“In this book, you will discover that genius is not only a talent that you are born with, but also a human capacity that can be trained and cultivated by anyone,” Carreira says.

He examines the unusual lives of luminaries such as Gertrude Stein, Ralph Waldo Emerson, William James, Anaïs Nin, Philip K. Dick and Captain Marvel, and compares the genius of Eastern mysticism with the brilliance of Christianity and Islam.

“You will explore great works of poetry, literature, science fiction, comic books and even extreme sports,” Carreira adds. “You will learn how to develop your own capacity for genius by discovering a mysterious inner state of mind that is intimately connected to life and simultaneously free of limitations and boundaries.”

4. The Sad Ghost Club by Lize Meddings

Ever felt anxious or like you don’t belong?

This is a comic book story of one of those days, a day so bad you can barely get out of bed. When it’s a struggle to leave the house, and when you do, you wish you hadn’t. But even the worst of days can surprise you. When one sad ghost, alone at a crowded party meets another sad ghost across the room, they decide to leave together. That night they started The Sad Ghost Club. A secret society for the anxious and alone, a club for people who don’t think they belong.

I found this book incredibly expansive to read and a reminder that we are never alone. It gives those with mental health problems such as anxiety and depression hope in finding people going through the same thing — sometimes when you least expect it. It also reinforces how life-changing deep connection truly feels.

6. Meditation: Biblical Method Versus Eastern Method, A Guide to a Bible-based Experience with God by Dr. Timothy R. Jennings

Many of us know by now that meditation offers a drug-free way to lower your blood pressure and heart rate, and achieve better focus and concentration. But are all forms of meditation equally beneficial?

From psychiatrist and author of The God-Shaped Brain, Timothy R. Jennings, M.D., comes a helpful guide that explains the differences between Eastern and biblical meditation—in both practice and outcome on brain and mind.

This short book also describes divergent meditation methods and their impact on brain function and character outcomes and demonstrates how readers can engage in healthy biblical meditation. Also included is a simple test to help readers determine which form of meditation they’re practicing.

7. The Mahabharata: Sons of Gods by Sharon Maas

Just about every Hindu child hears the epic story of Mahabharata while bouncing on their mother’s knee. The timeless story is a staple of their culture and tradition and oldest in the world.

however few people get the opportunity to read the story in book form due to its lengthy eighteen volumes and literary distance from today’s modern audiences.

now thanks to author, Sharon Maas, all of the profound wisdom and essence of its original volumes is distilled into a modern book that’s specifically rewritten for 21st-century readers.

I’m Excited to read this one :)
