Highlight On Honey

According to Ayurveda texts, honey is a remarkable gift to mankind. It is one of the finest sources of energy and is considered an all-purpose medicine for all types of diseases.

Latest research indicates that the pollen in honey contains all 22 amino acids, 28 minerals, 11 enzymes, 14 fatty acids and 11 carbohydrates.

The medicinal quality, taste, texture, colour and aroma of honey differ according to the geographical area and the species of plants from which it has been collected. 

Consuming one spoon of honey daily promotes the healing process and helps us to lead a healthy long life.

14 therapeutic uses of honey

1. Honey is an instant energizer because it contains sugars that are quickly absorbed by our digestive system and converted into energy. 

2. It absorbs well in the body, speeding up the healing process and growth of healing tissue. 

3. It cleanses and heals wounds quickly.

4. Honey acts as a sedative and is very useful in bed wetting disorders.

5. Honey is very good antioxidant. It restores the damaged skin and gives soft, young looks.

6. Honey has antibacterial properties due to its acidic nature and enzymically produced hydrogen peroxide.

7. Constant use of honey strengthens the white blood corpuscles to fight bacteria and viral diseases.

8. Honey is very good for eyes and eyesight.

9. It reduces effects of poison.

10. Stops hiccups and quenches thirst.

11. It is very useful in urinary tract disorders, worm infestations, bronchial asthma, cough, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

12. Newly collected honey increases body weight and is a mild laxative.

13. Stored, older honey helps in metabolism of fat and scrapes Kapha (those with a large, robust frame).

 5 precautions to be taken before using honey

1. Honey should not be mixed with hot foods.

2. Honey should not be heated. Unfortunately, much of the nutritive qualities are lost by heating honey for commercial use.

3. Honey should not be consumed when you are working in hot environment where you are exposed to more heat.

4. Honey should never be mixed with rainwater, hot and spicy foods, and fermented beverages like whisky, rum, brandy etc. 

5. Honey includes nectar of various flowers of which some may be poisonous. Poison has hot qualities. When honey is mixed with hot and spicy foods the poisonous properties get enhanced and cause body imbalance.

Home remedies with honey

1.     Mix 2 teaspoons of honey with carrot juice and consume regularly. This helps to improve eyesight and is very helpful for those who sit in front of a computer for long hours.

2.     If suffering a cold, cough or congested chest, mix 2 teaspoons of honey with an equal quantity of ginger juice. Consume frequently. 

3.     To relieve symptoms of asthma, consume a mixture of black pepper powder, honey and gingerjuice in equal quantities three times daily.

4.     Regular use of 1 teaspoon of garlic juice mixed with 2 teaspoons of honey helps to control blood pressure. 

5.     1 glass of warm water taken with two teaspoons of honey and 1 teaspoon of lemon juice in early morning reduces fat and purifies blood.
